BEPPU INK LAB — DRAW Session

[DRAW Session] The drawing session — building a picture line by line with a glass pen dipped in Beppu ink.

Beppu has its own fountain-pen inks, named after the colours of the place itself: Beppu Bay Blue, Steam Mist Blue, Ogiyama Green, Kannawa Sepia, Onsen-Flush Pink. BEPPU INK LAB is two hours spent painting a Beppu landscape onto a postcard with those inks and a glass dip pen.

【What you make】
An original postcard of Beppu, hand-coloured by you, framed and yours to carry home the same day.

【Three steps】

• Practice sheet — pick one colour, draw a line, dilute it with water and watch the tone change. First time with a glass pen is fine.

• One-colour study — choose one of four line drawings and fill it using only that colour. Nobody freezes in front of a blank page.

• The real thing — paint a Beppu landscape postcard in whatever colours you like.
  
  【How it runs】
  A navigator leads the session. This is not a class in technique; it is two hours of soaking in Beppu with your hands busy. Assistants move between seats, so ask whenever you get stuck.

• Around 2 hours

• About 10 guests

• Included: 15 Beppu inks, a glass pen, paper and all tools; a drink; a light bite

• Bring nothing. Ink can splash, so clothes you do not mind marking are a good idea.

• Your work goes home framed. Only if you upgrade to a premium frame is there an extra 2,000 yen on the day.
